He says he heard something, she refrains from telling him it was about her and keep everything vague. And obviously, totally unsurprisingly, Jinshi asked her to always keep her damn freckles. Probably because he is jealous, but really because the MC HAS to be average and be called “plain noodle” at all times. All in all, it is all about going to great lenghts to reassure the reader: “Don’t worry, she will never stand out, and so, she will live as a servant and perfect clone, will always manage to hide that she is more than just that, and will remain a nobody that nobody needs to notice, same as you japanese reader ! ouf !”

This, to me, is by far the most annoying stuff in all japanese writting.
What a frustrated reader you are, you just want the MC to shout everywhere “look at me! look at me! how wonderful i am!”. Dude… what’s the point of reveling everything to everybody ? Because you want it ? It would just make her like more complicated and she would attract too much attention on her, something she doesn’t want, that’s why she add those freckles, to not attract a weird dude who would like to have her.
The MC doesn’t have to be perfect ! The PC doesn’t have to reveal everything about himself/herself just because you, you want it.
If it were you at her stead, you would hide yourself at any means and at any cost to not be attractive and live a normal life. In this era, if you are attractive people are jealous and try to poison you, or try to buy you, to sell you, to f* you. So be a plain girl is more convenient in her case, she can live a normal and calm life.
