Hmm I understand some sort of punishment was needed but corporeal punishment, especially that kind can leave scars behind (unless they have some good healing medicine) which can ruin her marriage deal which in turn will be disadvantageous to the patriarch, I feel like some sort of confinement would have been a more suitable punishment since nothing really happen in the end.
