I do not understand how in all these stories people who have been in the military and assigned to a position always seem to not know what the greatest threat they could face would be. Why the hell would they be sent there and not told, “hey, we haven’t seen one in decades, but every now and then a black level forbidden zone pops up in the area. Keep an eye out just in case!” I get it so we can be exposition dumped on, but have a new person ask that question. Otherwise it just makes it look like their briefing/training is severely lacking, especially in this story where everyone is constantly surprised by everything they see, as if no one bothers to do any research before going into a dangerous area.
